DUAL ENROLLMENT COURSES
This year, we will be piloting a Dual Enrollment partnership with Horry Georgetown Technical College. Through this collaboration, our Lowcountry Prep juniors and seniors will have the opportunity to take college-level courses on our campus that will be taught in-person by our Lowcountry Prep teachers. Successful completion of each Dual Enrollment course will provide our students with one high school credit towards graduation and three college credit hours.
We are excited to share that Mrs. Malinda Hill will be teaching Statistics (Math 120) and College Algebra (Math 110). Dr. Tara Lavallee will be teaching American Government (Political Science 201) and State and Local Government (Political Science 215). These are semester-based classes that hold the same rigor as our current AP offerings and complement the AP Curriculum already in place for upper-level math and history. Further, each Dual Enrollment course will have the same GPA weight as an AP Course. Successful completion of all four courses would secure twelve college credit hours.
Seniors who are not registered for AP Calculus are scheduled to take both MAT 120 (Semester 1) and MAT 110 (Semester 2) to be enrolled in a full year of Math. Every senior will take PSC 201 (Semester 1) and PSC 215 (Semester 2) to be enrolled in a full year of history and complete their history graduation requirement.
Please note that while we implement this Dual Enrollment pilot program, we will continue to offer Advance Placement (AP) courses in other subject areas, simultaneously. Along with providing college credit, the Dual Enrollment program will afford our students the opportunity to experience the rhythm of a college-level semester course in the familiarity of our campus setting. Our course offerings will be similar in structure to actual college classes where credit is earned for the full body of work completed over a semester and not fully dependent upon an end-of-year test.
