STEM

Lowcountry has a robust and growing STEM Program. We are a SCISA STEM-Certified School and received the 2022 Lou and Bill Kennedy STEM Award for Outstanding Leadership in STEM Education.

Students learn the Scientific Method starting in elementary school, and each year students in grades 3-8 utilize that knowledge in the annual Science Fair. We send our top projects to the SCISA State Science Fair and always bring home a few trophies. In our K-12 classrooms, students frequently engage in hands-on and inquiry-based labs, as well as cross-curricular and design-based projects. Our STEM teachers also incorporate virtual lab technology into their lessons, with students using the program Labster to do experiments that can only be done in high-tech labs, or other simulations to take students on a virtual journey inside an atom or a nuclear reactor.

We offer ample opportunities for extracurricular STEM involvement. LPS sends middle and high school teams to the SCISA State Math Meet, and our high school Science Bowl team competes in an annual competition run by the U.S. Department of Energy.
